Helping you to find a way through Covid-19 within the HE sector
You can count on our support, with display solutions for the Higher Education sector - both during these hugely challenging times and beyond.
The unprecedented social-distancing restrictions have created significant financial and practical difficulties in the Higher Education sector at a time when there is already uncertainty following the adverse impact of Brexit on university recruitment, together with the erosion of government funding.
Now, more than ever, it is vital for universities to achieve maximum value for their AV spend, without compromising on performance.
Use our expertise and skills at every stage of a project - from technical site survey and CAD design to supply and installation - to get it right the first time and to give your university clients an appropriate and impressive solution that is reliable, futureproof and cost-effective.
Social Distancing Measures
Refurbishment / upgrade existing rooms and systems
Survey, assess and design suitable alternative options, using latest standards and performance metrics. Use our parametric CAD system to adapt spaces for social distancing, to redeploy or upgrade displays so every student can see and understand every image.
Reconfigure learning environments
We use parametric 3D CAD tools to generate room layouts which accommodate social distancing seating layouts dynamically, and with additional layers to show viewing positions that conform to the ANSI/AVIXA DISCAS standard, plus its guidance on font size needed for viewers at the back.
Solutions for Flipped Classrooms and Flexible Learning Spaces
We understand the changed dynamics of these teaching disciplines and pedagogies to provide display solutions where communication can flow between teacher, student and groups of students, for increased student engagement, collaboration and learning.
Live Lab displays
Increasingly popular in healthcare, for example, we help you provide displays for such spaces, including sterile environments.
Lecture rooms
From intimate spaces to large rooms we use our expert knowledge of the AVIXA DISCAS and ISCR Standards to specify the optimum size, luminance and technology for the central display and repeater screens.
Auditoriums and large lecture rooms
Our large screen display solutions using dnp Supernova ALR (ambient light-rejecting) technology provide leading edge solutions on campuses throughout the UK. We help resellers provide large, multi-use spaces with real wow-factor, to be used for everything from teaching to open days to graduations and external revenue-generating conferences and events.

Consultative user-centred approach
It is vital to fully understand the university’s objectives at all levels: strategic, technical, best-value procurement - and practical - so you can create an exceptional user experience, on time and within budget.
UX is currently a buzzword, often mistakenly applied to control panel GUIs, when it really refers to a holistic approach to every aspect of AV-enabled spaces. At time of writing, Visual Displays' director Greg Jeffreys, is on AVIXA’s task group producing the new User Experience Design for Audiovisual. Speak to us to find out how this helps campuses to achieve results they’ve never dreamt of - and how you can become their superstar guide.
Standards-based specification and measurable outcomes
We support HE integrators to use recognised AV standards to specify, procure and certify displays, eliminating guesswork, subjectivity during sign-off - and risk. Standards give us hard metrics leading to quantifiable outcomes. The secret is in specifying the performance rather than the specification: by working with measurable metrics reflecting users’ perception and experience, you are technology- and manufacturer-agnostic, giving you the chance to provide universities best of breed - and the very best value.
Let us do the work - tender responses a speciality
With our knowledge and experience in the HE sector we are an expert resource for HE framework suppliers who want to deliver world-class display solutions on time and on budget.
Give us your client’s brief and requirements, and we’ll turn it into a world-class solution. Our detailed technical site surveys, demonstrations, and highly skilled CAD design maximise accuracy and efficiency.
We supply standards-based evidence to present to your HE clients, to demonstrate that you are offering the very best display solution for their needs.
We offer a full tender-support service with competitive pricing and technical excellence, backed up by verifiable metrics. We have helped many clients win tenders with well-crafted responses using our advanced technical and standards knowledge to provide convincing and constructive responses (even when there are ‘issues’ with their quality!).
Solutions and Technology
Universities competing for today’s highly demanding and selective students need facilities with the wow-factor. From providing standards-based evidence why a campus has superior teaching technology to attract the best (and international) students, to ensuring that even the back half of the room can read and understand the content.
Size is important. Displays for higher education normally need to be 100” and above, to comply with the DISCAS image size standard.
We supply large-scale, seamless HD, UHD and 4K displays for collaboration, presentation and signage from 100” up to any size.
Projection is almost always the best choice, giving universities the size and performance they want, at a fraction of the cost per square metre of the alternative large screen displays which, at over 100”, are videowalls and direct view LED displays.
Projection is the environmentally sustainable option, from materials and manufacture environmental impact, to low energy use throughout lifetime, to end-of-life recycling. See, for example, our market-leading partner Epson’s leadership here.
Recent innovations in laser projection, with 20,000 hours of high performance maintenance-free operation, means projected displays can be installed and managed just like large format displays, with the remote management options, but without some of their critical limitations.
For students to be able to see and engage with detailed information they need a minimum image contrast of at least 15:1, according to the globally adopted ANSI/AVIXA PISCR and ISCR standards. In properly-lit teaching environments there is no alternative to using a specialist ambient light rejecting (ALR) projection screen. Users often overlook the fact that students look at the screen, not the projector! The screen is the critical element in the display solution.
We are the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for dnp denmark, the pioneering manufacturer of the best-available ALR screen technology, the world-leading dnp Supernova. This groundbreaking technology has been a game-changer in the HE sector, combining large, high-contrast, detailed images with functionality, reliability and huge cost benefits.

Projection screen technology in action
Short shoot-out video taken just before lockdown in an East Ayrshire school, comparing various ALR (ambient light rejecting) projection screens with standard white material, using a small Epson projector. It conclusively shows the massive superiority of the two dnp Supernova screen materials. The square panel shows our low-cost ALR material; not quite as good as dnp, but head and shoulders better than standard white. Any space larger than 5.5m deep needs 100” minimum image size. Above 90” projection is best and cheapest option – and exponentially so in larger sizes. Not only is image quality superior, it does not subject students to continuous exposure to blue light, a big current concern.
