Wuhan light show celebrates lifting of lockdown
Images of health workers, police and troops have been projected onto skyscrapers in a midnight light show to mark the lifting of a 76-day lockdown in Wuhan, China, epicentre of the pandemic.
The city where the Covid-19 outbreak started has celebrated the end of an 76-day lockdown with a midnight light and projection show. Imagery projected onto skyscrapers paid tribute healthcare workers, troops and police officers who worked tirelessly throughout the last three months to look after the 11 million residents.
The city, which was the worst affected in China, was put on total lockdown, with public transport shut and roads barricaded. The lockdown was lifted at midnight on Wednesday 8 April and Wuhan’s residents were able to move freely again.
