Display choice for Microsoft Teams Rooms is a big talking point

Microsoft’s move to specifying projectors was a hot discussion topic at the Microsoft Teams Rooms World - Canada event last week.

Display choice for Microsoft Teams Rooms is a big talking point

Traditional specification criteria for choosing the right display technology for MTRs has been disrupted in particular by Microsoft’s Front Row screen variant. It’s 21:9, which is a natural outturn of the necessity in hybrid meetings to have multiple content windows - on the same screen at the same time.

If 0.9mm pitch dvLED screens were available now at lower brightness, with lower power load, lower heat dissipation - and drastically lower prices - then integrators could be back in the comfort zone that’s been lost now that LFDs up to 98” can only be used in smaller rooms than before.

The reality is that so many people have experienced poor projected image quality, via the classic scenario of using standard white screens (or white wall!) in normally lit rooms.

Many are unaware that the latest generations of projectors feature ‘cold’ laser light sources, with 20,000 + hours of maintenance free operation, with management software allowing hundreds or thousands of projectors to be monitored and managed in globally deployed estates.

Modern ALR (ambient light rejecting) laser projection may well solve all these problems, but when all brochure images for projection are seemingly Photoshopped perfection, unless users see it with their own eyes, it’s understandably tough for them to realise what a game-changer ALR laser projection really comprises.

Meetings with senior management at projection companies reveal that this resurgence of projection via the Microsoft connection seems to have blindsided market analysts - and maybe the manufacturers themselves. Not only was this move to projection not foreseen, the scale of this market potential is proving disruptive.

My White Paper ‘MTR’s - The Bigger Picture’ unpacks ALR projection - and the surrounding room design issues in depth.
