What do we mean by immersive displays in Microsoft Teams and hybrid meeting rooms?
What is needed? And when is it needed?
To achieve a feeling of ‘immersion’ in a hybrid meeting is a signifier of success. In hybrid meetings we attempt to break the fourth wall, to have a sense of immediacy and presence with the remote participants.
‘Telepresence’ from Cisco, ‘HoloDeck’ from Star Trek are neologisms that strive to convey that we can create the feeling that someone on the other side of the world (or galaxy!) is right here in the room with us.
Back here on planet Earth, at Visual Displays we turn these aspirations into reality, using decades of ongoing experience in designing and building immersive displays, supporting users, integrators and AV consultants with these specialisms.
On a practical note, now that Cisco Telepresence systems are end of life - and support - our large screen digital canvas displays in 21:9, 16:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios provide practical and futureproofed alternatives.
Step one with immersion is to fill the viewer’s field of view - with generous surface area and, for advanced systems, with embracing curved screens.
One thing is for sure. A 98” flat panel is too small to provide immersive experiences for anything but the smallest of gatherings.
