Giant wave is ‘world’s largest anamorphic illusion’

A giant wave appears to be crashing inside a huge aquarium in what is believed to be the world’s largest anamorphic illusion, which has been created on landmark Samsung 8K curved LED digital signage in Seoul, South Korea.

When viewed from a certain angle, the rectangular screen gives the impression that the massive wave has volume. The project took four months from start to finish, including three months of digital design work.

The public art installation was developed by DOOH creative agency d’strict, and is shown on the 31,000 LED panel digital signage installation at the Coex Artium in K-Pop Square in the city’s Gangnam district.

Jun Lee, business development director at d’strict, said: ‘We want to create overwhelming experiences. Waves are beautiful and dynamic in themselves but we chose them as our subject because they evoke feelings of comfort – which is much needed now.’

The project has created what is believed to be the world’s largest 3D wave at 1,600 sq m (80.9m x 20.1m). The IP content was licenced for use by d’strict which is developing a licensable IP content library for outdoor media.
