State-of-the-art displays for new University of Glasgow building
The James McCune Smith Learning Hub is a £90 million state-of-the-art learning and teaching facility located at the heart of the University of Glasgow’s existing Gilmorehill campus.
The new building, part of the University's major £1bn campus development, provides state-of-the-art learning facilities and further enhances Glasgow’s reputation as a welcoming, accessible, and world-renowned destination for learning.
Opened in April 2021, it provides hi-tech learning facilities for over 2,500 students, including a range of technology-enhanced learning spaces for group and individual study.
Visual Displays are delighted to have successfully completed an extensive and complex installation of dnp Supernova projection screens and our Complete Laser Displays (curated bundles of Epson projectors and dnp screens) within this exceptional new building.
From its inception before 2017 to its completion this January, this project presented various challenges, particularly in delivering content to some viewer locations. How to create 4K displays over 6m wide? Working closely with our partners at Kinly, we created standards-based solutions in terms of performance, size and cost - the key elements of any Higher Education AV project.
The dnp screens used in the University of Glasgow project are more technically advanced and therefore expensive than standard materials. Under normal ambient light scenarios, this is the only way to guarantee a great result for optimal viewing and avoid client disappointment with washed-out images.
