Microsoft Teams chat overtakes email at commercial users

The average commercial user of Microsoft Teams spends more time using Teams chat than they do using email.

That’s according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who was speaking on a first-quarter earnings conference call yesterday.

Users interact with Teams 1,500 times per month on average. And the number of people using four or more features within Teams increased by more than 20% year on year.

Over 55% of enterprise customers who use Teams also buy Teams Rooms or Teams Phone, said Nadella, who pointed to Teams running natively on Cisco devices and peripherals as a further sign of growth in the Team Rooms hardware ecosystem.

Monthly active enterprise users running third-party and custom applications within Teams has also increased nearly 60% year on year.

Nadella commented: “Microsoft Teams is the de facto standard for collaboration and has become essential to how hundreds of millions of people meet, call, chat, collaborate, and do business. As we emerge from the pandemic, we are retaining users we’ve gained and are seeing increased engagement too.”
