Setting Standards

Of all the standards that apply to Microsoft Teams Rooms, AVIXA/ANSI’s new ISCR standard for display contrast is essential - and mission-critical. Here’s why.

Setting Standards

Image quality = image contrast. Get contrast right and everything else falls into place.

The journey since 2009 from PISCR (Projected Image System Contrast Ratio) to DVDISCR (Direct View Display Image System Contrast Ratio) to 2022’s bang up to date ISCR (Image System Contrast Ratio) has been a personal one as I was co-writer of PISCR and ISCR.

ISCR applies to all display technologies, on a level playing field, making like-for-like assessments whether it’s flat panel Large Format Displays, projection, dvLED, OLED etc.

Understanding what contrast means in practice (the difference between sequential and checkerboard intra-frame, for example) is essential for MTR design, sign-off and certification.

The ISCR standard is easy to understand and use.
