Microsoft select Epson for Teams Rooms displays
Microsoft has selected Epson as their go to Teams Rooms large screen display partner. Recent developments here have taken me by surprise.
A common misapprehension is that the new need for much larger display sizes means ‘projection’ in the sense of using a projector, selected without reference to standards calculations, shining onto a standard white screen. With some merit, this is greeted without enthusiasm in some quarters.
What ‘projection’ means in practice is ‘ALR projection’, namely ambient light rejecting screen technology coupled with latest generation maintenance-free 3LCD laser projectors, which have all the monitoring and management platforms needed to manage large scale global room estates.
And the surprise? Like most projection nerds, I look for the best and brightest developments. But the new Epson ‘super ultra short throw’ 4K UHD (pixel shifted) EB-810E projector represents a breakthrough in specification and price in mainstream meeting and teaching applications.
Coupled with the DNP Supernova STW ALR screen, this creates standards-compliant displays of 120” (or 113” in 21:9) with end user prices from around £7000. With a total depth under 450mm, it occupies the most minimalist of footprints.
Having recently spent intensive evaluation sessions with the Epson Europe team at the DNP factory in Denmark, selecting good/better/best projector combinations across the entire range of meeting and teaching requirements, this was a surprise standout.
